Recollection

Tricolor unfurled atop the mast
Unionjack folded and returned at last
Indian soldiers in uniforms so starchy
Marching past the Red Fort so catchy
Saluting the Republic born this day
Jai Hind in rhythm they all say

With painful memories of bygone years
And victory sound of bugle in their ears
Patriotic surge in their body and mind
Stern discipline of an implicit kind
Pledging to play the perennial role
Of protecting India with heart and soul.
